Having built software for more than a decade now, I see software construction as an art. Some of my peers say it is folly to draw parallels between software engineering and art, because the former is a craft, whose principles are well-known and (hopefully) well applied, while the latter is a personal expression of one's creativity. I disagree — software for me is the expression of my creativity, in addition to being the craft I practise that gets me a pay cheque.
